Across our whole kit we use fewer than fifteen base ingredients. Every one is listed here, by name.

Never in our kit: no bleach, no ammonia, no synthetic fragrance, no quaternary ammonium compounds, no phenols, no vinegar.

Branch Basics Concentrate

Our primary cleaner. Counters, surfaces, bathrooms, floors, glass. Diluted at three strengths for all-purpose, bathroom and streak-free glass work.

Purified water · Decyl glucoside · Coco-glucoside · Chamomile flower extract · Sodium citrate · Sodium bicarbonate · Sodium phytate

The surfactants are plant-derived, from coconut oil, corn glucose and fruit sugars. The chamomile holds IFRA certification stating it is not a fragrance material, and the bottle smells of nothing.

Branch Basics Oxygen Boost

Stains, grout, porcelain and tubs. Not used on natural stone, unlacquered copper or brass.

Sodium percarbonate · Sodium carbonate

This is the strongest thing we carry, and we would rather tell you than not. It is an oxidizer and the manufacturer’s label carries a caution for eye contact. Our cleaners put on eye protection before the tub is opened, it is always dissolved in water before use, and it is rinsed. In the bottle it is a powder. On your surfaces it has already broken down into hydrogen peroxide and soda ash.

Briotech Sanitizer + Disinfectant

Hypochlorous acid. High-touch surfaces, grout and caulk lines. Always the last step. Safe on natural stone. Never mixed with anything.

Electrolyzed water · Sodium chloride · Hypochlorous acid

Hypochlorous acid is the same compound white blood cells produce. It breaks down into salt and water and leaves no residue.

EPA Reg. No. 93108-1.

Hydrogen peroxide, 3%

Mold, mildew and stubborn grout staining only.

One ingredient. Breaks down into water and oxygen. No residue, no fumes.

Citric acid

Hard water and mineral deposits, and the toilet base. Never used on natural stone, and never mixed with hypochlorous acid.

One ingredient, derived from citrus. Dissolves hard water deposits. Never on marble or limestone, because it would dissolve those too.

Baking soda

Scrubbing tubs, sinks and porcelain, and deodorizing. Never used on quartz, chrome or oil-rubbed bronze, because it scratches them.

One ingredient. Sodium bicarbonate.

Water, and there are two

Distilled water goes into every dilution.

Remineralized reverse-osmosis water runs the steamer. Reverse osmosis water with trace minerals added back, nothing else. The machine needs a small amount of dissolved mineral content to run, which is why it is not pure distilled or pure RO water.

How we decide what goes in the kit

The list above is short on purpose, and it is the whole list. A product only earns a place if we can tell you what is in it, what it is for, and what it must never touch.

The working definition we use for every product decision: is it there to make something smell, and can you smell it? If the answer to both is yes, it is fragrance, whatever the label calls it.
